Fractured Outlands

The Fractured Outlands are a mystical, self-contained reality that operates according to completely unique, non-Euclidean laws. The focus is on extreme isolation, liminal spaces and surreal architecture.

core aspects of the world

  • Atmosphere & Vibe: The environment appears static, deeply unsettling and melancholic. Imagine endless, unreal spaces - accompanied by the unnatural hum of lights and a oppressive emptiness.
  • The starting area (Sector 0): An endless desert of red sand. In the distance you can see ruins and thunderstorms approaching. The sun acts like a prism and, bizarrely, the sky looks like that out, as if you were from look out over a sea above.
  • Surreal anomalies (glitches): Occasionally, completely out of place objects appear, such as a potted plant in a damp tunnel or a floating grandfather clock. These elements are none mechanical Puzzles, but serve to create the atmosphere and show that reality here is unstable.

Lore & mechanics

  • Prime Reality vs. Sectors: The protagonists come from the normal world ("Prime Reality") and now search the different zones ("Sectors") of the Outlands.
  • The Lucidity System: Characters' mental clarity (starting at 90/100) determines how effectively they interact with the absurd environment. While the environment is always a deterministic fact remains (no matter how surreal), the Lucidity value determines whether the characters act tactically and precisely or fall apart because of the impossible rules of the world.
